Navy and Cranberry Rustic Summer Wedding Color Scheme

Lately I have been finding that many brides are looking for ways to use dark colours for a summer wedding. Typically, summer weddings have been known for fun brights or soft pastels and brides are sometimes discouraged from choosing colours that are too heavy. Colours like navy, emerald, cranberry and plum are often saved for fall or winter weddings, but this doesn't always need to be the case.

While I agree that dark colours make great winter wedding colour schemes, I don't think this ideology should prevent brides from opting for these shades for their summer wedding. In this colour scheme, for example, the two main colours are cranberry and navy, both of which are on the darker side. But in this collage, they definitely don't seem inappropriate for a summer wedding. Why is that? First of all, they're paired with lighter neutrals to help offset the darkness. Light grey and cream help balance the darker colours without taking away any of the drama. This particular colour scheme was inspired by berries - cranberries, cherries and blueberries - all of which make me think of summer. Lastly, the red-white-and-blue combination is a summer staple for our American friends who celebrate the Fourth of July! Navy and cranberry would be a great way to show off your patriotic side on your wedding day without being too in-your-face about it. All in all, what we're left with is a dramatic colour scheme that works wonderfully for a warm-weather event!

It's all in the details:
  • A navy and white gingham shirt for the boys
  • Navy place cards in a bed of fresh cranberries
  • Perfectly imperfect floral arrangements with dark red accents
